Thanks to a call from a passerby who witnessed the taking of
one of the signs, the two signs identifying the Mary Cummings Park
have been located. The 3'x5' signs and their installation were a gift
from the Friends of the Mary Cummings Park. They were discovered
missing last Wednesday.
Over the weekend the Friends of the Mary Cummings Park were
informed that an eyewitness had seen one of the signs being taken by
the City of Boston. On Monday the Friends' lawyer called Boston's
Trust Department to confirm, and was told that the signs had been
taken down because "it's our land". When asked what Boston's
objections to the signs were, the official replied there were plenty
of signs already up including "no trespassing" signs. She said the
Friends' signs would be returned but they were not to be put back up.
Friends of Mary Cummings Park put up the signs because there
are no signs identifying the park. To see the Friends' signs, go to
the Friends website www.cummingspark.org
We are grateful for all the expressions of support that we have received.
